We have been learning about people who have done something special. They are significant because the things that they did have a lasting impact on life today.
Florence Nightingale - made changes to hospitals. She made sure they were clean with clean bandages, floors and sheets. This helped wounded soldiers not to catch infections when they were recovering. When she came back to England she opened a school and trained nurses.
Mary Seacole / Mary "Mother" Seacole - was a nurse and offered to help in Crimea but was not respected because of the colour of her skin. She travelled to Crimea and opened a hospital called the British Hotel and treated soldiers with herbal remedies. She even treated wounded soldiers on the battlefield.
