Science week excitement
14 March 2018
This week the whole school have been taking part in Science week. As well as working on their own class investigations the children have enjoyed a range of scientific experiences, hopefully learning lots along the way! Our thanks go to Trevelyan Middle School's science club for enthusing the upper school with their experiments on Monday and to Mrs Liz Juby for giving the lower school a wonderfully informative presentation on the importance of honey bees. The visit from Immersive Theatre's planetarium was a huge hit with everyone, and it was lovely to see some parents and younger siblings coming along to find out what the children had experienced during the day. Many of the children enthused about their 3D visit to the International Space Station and the younger children just loved it when the roof came off and showed them the night sky! The Science Boffins brought a whole new dimension to toothpaste during assembly and the excitement continued as many of the children got to make their own ice cream - all in the course of learning about states of matter. The lower school also learned that balloons are not just decorations for parties and many of them took them home to show their parents their learning about electricity! However the climax came at the end of the day when the whole school congregated in the playground to watch a small rocket launch way up into the sky. Take a look at the attached photos to share some of the children's experiences - more will be added as the week goes by.
